Announcing Essay and Art contests

The 2012 Law Day theme "No Courts, No Justice, No Freedom" has been chosen by the American Bar Association to highlight the importance of our courts and the serious funding shortages that are endangering their ability to provide access to justice for all of our people.

Contest Rules: DEADLINE IS MONDAY, APRIL 20, 2012

ESSAY: Open to Cochise County students with separately judged categories for 6th through 8th grade students and 9th through 12th grade students.

Topic: "What Would Our Society Look Like Without Fair and Impartial Courts?"

Criteria: No longer than 3 typed pages, double-spaced. One inch margins and 12 point font. Must include student's name, name of school, teacher's name and grade in top right corner. Will be judged on Originality, Grammar/Structure and Format.

GRAPHIC ARTS / PHOTOGRAPHY: Open to Cochise County students with separately judged categories for 6th through 8th grade students and 9th through 12th grade students.

Topic: "Picture Our Society Without Lady Justice"

Criteria: Paper size cannot exceed 11" by 14". Student's name, name of school, teacher's name and grade must be included on the back of the artwork.


DEADLINE IS FRIDAY, APRIL 20, 2012 Schools should submit their entries from each category by mail to: Karen Ferrara, Court Administrator, at P.O. Box 204, Bisbee, Arizona 85603
or
by physically delivering to one of the following Cochise County Juvenile Probation Offices:

Contest winners will be invited to read their essays or comment on their artwork at Cochise County's Law Day Ceremony Tuesday, May 1, 2012, at 10:00 a.m. on the steps of the Cochise County Courthouse in Bisbee.

Resources are available at www.lawday.org. The attorneys and probation officers are available to schools for program presentations on this theme and contest topics.
