Property Owners Can Expect to Soon Receive Their Free Vouchers

“Free Dump Day” returns to Cochise County, giving eligible property owners a free day to dispose of unwanted waste gathered on their residential property, at no cost. Countywide residential property owners can expect to receive a postcard-sized certificate in the mail as early as this week.

The annual program, designed to keep Cochise County beautiful and clean, gives county residents a head start on their spring cleaning by providing a convenient opportunity to dispose of one load of trash, up to a half-ton, on a day of their choosing - one trip, one time, half-ton. Trash amounts exceeding half-ton will be subject to the $64 per ton tipping fee. Vouchers are to be used within 12 months from the postmarked date.

Free Dump Day certificates are sent to residential property owners of record, according to the Assessors tax roll. To be eligible for the program, citizens must live in Cochise County and have a mailing address where their property taxes are mailed and must be current on their property taxes.

Additionally, property owners must have their home classified as one of the following:

  • Owner-occupied residential
  • Rental/leased residential
  • Non-commercial historic

“The main thrust of the program is to keep the County clean,” says Public Works Director Martin Haverty. “If individuals don’t have any trash at their place, they are welcome to give it to their neighbor or someone else who is in need of it.”

Upon its arrival, citizens may look to the instructions on the voucher for information and guidance on how to take advantage of their free dump day. Only non-commercial vehicle, truck, or trailer loads are accepted. Residents are required to show their certificate at the transfer station when they arrive with a load.

Damaged or lost certificates will not be replaced, so residents are advised to keep their certificates in a safe place until they are ready to use them. Any certificates issued prior to 2022 are not valid. The County reserves the right to reject any certificates that may appear to be duplicated or altered.
