The Board of Supervisors on Tuesday adopted the final County budget for the Fiscal Year 2022-2023. The final budget was adopted with no changes to the previously adopted tentative budget

On Tuesday, three separate Truth in Taxation hearings were held to receive public comment on the proposed property tax levy increases for Cochise County’s General Fund, Library District, and Flood Control District.

During the special meeting, the Board voted to approve the final County budget and each of the District budgets. The total County budget is balanced at $250,049,871, to include $96,547,090 in General Funds and $153,502,781 in Special Revenue Funds.

The Fiscal Year 2022-2023 Flood Control District budget was adopted at $8,458,691; the Library District budget at $3,139,844, and the Light Improvement District budgets at:

  • Bowie: $13,841
  • Golden Acres: $13,346
  • Naco: $11,280
  • Pirtleville: $20,345
  • Sunsites: $30,408

“Once the budget is adopted, we have the ability to lower it, but we cannot increase it,” said Chairman Ann English. “We manage the budget throughout the year, but the amount cannot increase from what we approve today, which is the exact same amount as the approved tentative budget.”

For the Cochise County General Fund Primary Property Tax, a Truth In Taxation hearing was held to receive public comment on the proposed tax levy increase of $693,501 or 2.61%. The proposed General Fund property tax levy increase is intended to dedicate approximately $547,423 directly to the Public Safety Retirement Personnel System (PSPRS) as an additional amount paid to strategically help lower the debt.

The Cochise County General Fund Primary Property Tax rate will be reviewed and voted on by the Board of Supervisors on Monday, August 15, 2022.
