The Cochise County Board of Supervisors appointed Mrs. Melissa Wirthlin to the position of Constable for Justice Precinct 5, effective immediately, at a Special Session on March 8, 2017. The Constable is the primary process server for that precinct and provides service for Arizona and other courts in the areas of Sierra Vista, Ft. Huachuca, Huachuca City and Whetstone. There were 16 qualified applicants and the Board interviewed four.
Mrs. Wirthlin brings over 30 years of experience to the position including serving 20 years at the Cochise County Sheriff’s Office. Wirthlin retired in 2007 as the Detention Lieutenant/Deputy Jail Commander. Since retiring she has remained active as a volunteer for the Sheriff’s Assist Team and is the Field Training Officer for the volunteer program. She is licensed by the State of Arizona as a Private Investigator.
Chairman Ann English stated, “Although we had several very qualified candidates, we selected Melissa due to her experience, integrity, and passion for the position. We’re confident she will restore credibility to the Office.” Mrs. Wirthlin said, “I am humbled and grateful for the opportunity presented by the Board of Supervisors and look forward to serving the community, the Justice Court and fulfilling my duties as Constable.”
The position became vacant in January this year when Constable Scott McManaway resigned. Mrs. Wirthlin will serve out the term remaining until the next regular, general election in November 2018.
