When am I assigned an advocate?
When a criminal case has been formally established, you will be assigned a Victim Advocate. It is the job of the Victim Advocate to

  • Inform you of your rights
  • Explain the Criminal Justice Process
  • Help you complete and file forms
  • Assist you with court dates and hearings
  • Help you speak at court or speak on your behalf
  • Communicate with the prosecutor and others working on your case

The Victim Advocate CANNOT

  • Provide copies of police reports
  • Control the prosecutor or case direction
  • Give legal advice
  • Talk with the defendant (the alleged criminal)
  • Interview witnesses or investigate
  • Provide therapy
  • Provide childcare
