Cochise County Opens COVID-19 Vaccine Eligibility to Ages 18 and Over

BISBEE, Az. (March 23, 2021) – Effective today, Cochise County COVID-19 vaccination sites are open to all adults 18 and over. This comes after the news from the Arizona Department of Health Services (ADHS), of opening Arizona’s state-operated COVID-19 vaccination sites to all Arizonans 16 and older.

At this time, Cochise County only receives and administers the Moderna and Janssen (Johnson & Johnson) vaccines, which are currently not approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for people under the age of 18. Therefore, Cochise County cannot administer the Moderna or Janssen vaccines to anyone under 18. State-operated vaccination sites administer the Pfizer vaccine which is available to those ages 16 and older. Residents who want to receive the Pfizer vaccine may register for any state-operated vaccination sites, located in Maricopa, Pima, and Yuma counties.

"We typically follow the State’s lead to reduce confusion for our community members,” says Alicia Thompson, Health Director of Cochise Health & Social Services. “With this boost in eligibility, we are able to make sure that every resident who wants to receive the vaccine is able to get it now. Our main goal is getting as many people in the county vaccinated, while continuing to prioritize residents who are 65 and older and those in hard to reach communities.”

ADHS has updated the Vaccine Management System (VMS) to reflect the new eligibility and are now accepting appointments through the ADHS portal ("") and hotline 1-844-542-8201.

Cochise County is allocated a very limited amount of vaccine doses and appointments may quickly fill. Residents are encouraged to be patient when scheduling vaccination appointments through ADHS and to continue seeking open availabilities until they successfully schedule an appointment for themselves or someone else.

To date, Cochise County has administered 48,901 vaccines, reaching 25.2 percent of the county population. Cochise County vaccination sites are only available to those who live or work within Cochise County, and proof of residency and/or employment will be requested upon site check-in, throughout the county.
